Updates
What's new in KiBuxs
Every version, newest first. KiBuxs never connects to the internet to look for updates, so you choose when to update.
Latest version
KiBuxs 0.14.1 Beta
- Released
- 6 October 2026
- File
KiBuxs-Setup-0.14.1.exe- System
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Mac coming soon
Download KiBuxs Setup 0.14.1Opens our OneDrive folder. Download the newest KiBuxs-Setup file and its matching .kbxsig file. New to KiBuxs? Just run the Setup.
How to update
- Download the Setup and its signatureSave
KiBuxs-Setup-0.14.1.exeandKiBuxs-Setup-0.14.1.exe.kbxsigto your Downloads folder. Don't rename them. KiBuxs only installs an update that comes with our signature file, so a fake or changed Setup is refused. - Open KiBuxsGo to App info, then Check for updates. KiBuxs finds the new Setup in your Downloads.
- Choose InstallKiBuxs saves and locks your books, closes, and the Setup shows its progress. The new version opens when it's done. Your books aren't touched.
Why doesn't KiBuxs update itself? Keeping it fully offline is safer: the app never contacts our servers or anyone else's, apart from an optional Companies House lookup when you ask. App info has a See latest version button that opens this page in your browser.
Version history
0.14.1Opens even when another program has its address
- Fixed: KiBuxs could refuse to open, saying another program was using port 8765. It now uses a spare address instead and opens as normal.
- Opening KiBuxs while it's already open (or hidden by the clock, or still starting) brings that one to the front instead of showing a message.
0.14.0Groundwork for a future Microsoft Store version
- Behind the scenes, KiBuxs is getting ready for a Microsoft Store version. Nothing changes in the KiBuxs Setup you download from us.
- When the Store version arrives, it will use the same books, in the same KiBuxs-Data folder, and the same licence key.
0.13.0One licence key per company
- Each licence key is now made for one company's Companies House number, and works only for the company in KiBuxs with that number. A second company needs its own key.
- Entering a key for a company with no number yet fills its number in from the key.
- Changing a company's number in Settings means it needs a key for the new number.
- The 7-day free trial is for the whole of KiBuxs, so adding a company doesn't start a new one. After the trial, a company without its own key can still be opened, viewed and exported.
- Keys now start with KBX2. Older KBX1 keys are no longer accepted.
0.12.2Tidier company setup
- Set up your company: the steps and the form are now one centred card, with the steps along its top joined by a progress line, so there's no empty space beside it.
0.12.1Tidier trial notice
- The free trial notice is now a small box at the bottom of the menu, above Lock, instead of a wide bar across the top of every page. On a phone it's a chip at the top.
0.12.0Licence keys and a 7-day free trial
- New: licence keys. Enter yours in App info (or from the bar at the top). KiBuxs checks it on this computer; nothing is sent anywhere.
- A new copy of KiBuxs is a 7-day free trial. Everything works except bringing data in (bank statements, history imports and Restore backup), which needs a licence key.
- After the trial your books can still be opened, viewed and exported, but nothing new can be added until a key is entered. Your books are never locked or deleted.
- Restoring a backup on a new computer asks for your licence key first.
0.11.5Tidier App info page
- App info: the What's new box now lines up with the cards beside it, so there's no gap below it.
0.11.4Safer updates, licences, and sign-in fixes
- Check for updates only installs a KiBuxs Setup that's signed by KiBuxs (its .kbxsig signature file beside it), so a fake or changed Setup is refused. It also shows the Setup's SHA-256.
- iPhone (HEIC) receipt photos are now read with a different library whose licence suits KiBuxs. They work as before.
- New in App info: Third-party licences, listing every outside component in KiBuxs and its licence.
- Closing KiBuxs to the tray now locks your books as well as saving them. Opening it again asks for your password.
- Making a new recovery key: your old key keeps working until you've typed the new one back, and you can cancel and keep the old one.
- Resetting your password with the recovery key or file signs out anywhere else KiBuxs was open.
- Setting up KiBuxs: reloading the page part way no longer skips the two-step sign in offer.
0.11.3No HMRC connection during the Beta
- During the Beta, KiBuxs never connects to HMRC, Making Tax Digital VAT included. It prepares your VAT return, payroll (RTI) figures and Corporation Tax figures for you to submit yourself.
- VAT page: the Connect to HMRC and Submit to HMRC buttons are gone for now. Copy the 9 boxes into your MTD software, submit them, then choose I've filed this with HMRC to mark the quarter as filed and lock it.
- Settings, HMRC link: shows that it isn't available during the Beta.
0.11.2See the latest version on the website
- New in App info: a See latest version button, next to Check for updates. It opens the KiBuxs website's Updates page in your browser, where you can download the newest KiBuxs Setup. KiBuxs itself still never goes online to check.
0.11.1Forgot password box fixed
- Forgot password? now shows only the tab you pick: the recovery key form or the recovery file form, not both at once.
0.11.0Recovery file, and a safer recovery key
- New recovery file: a second way back in if you forget your password. Save it to a USB stick or another device (KiBuxs won't let it go in with your books). On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot password?, then Use recovery file, and set a new password. Make a new one in Settings, Security & data; the old one then stops working.
- If you already use KiBuxs, you're asked once to save a recovery file, and the dashboard reminds you until you have one.
- Setting up KiBuxs: the recovery key step can no longer be skipped. Print it or save it as a PDF, then type its last two groups back to carry on. You can also make a new recovery key in Settings.
- Setting up KiBuxs now offers two-step sign in (or Skip for now). Until it's on, the dashboard's Things to do reminds you.
0.10.1Uninstalling closes KiBuxs, even from the tray
- Uninstalling KiBuxs (or installing a new KiBuxs Setup) now closes a running KiBuxs first, including one in the tray, saving and locking your books. Before, KiBuxs could carry on in the tray after it was uninstalled.
0.10.0Opens full screen, and can keep running in the tray
- The KiBuxs window now opens maximised, filling the screen.
- New in Settings, Appearance: when you close the KiBuxs window, it can keep running in the system tray (the icons by the clock) instead of quitting. Click the tray icon to open it again, or right-click it to lock or quit. Your books are saved when it goes to the tray and still lock by themselves after the auto-lock time.
- The licence agreement in KiBuxs Setup has its final wording.
0.9.4Licence agreement in KiBuxs Setup
- KiBuxs Setup now shows the KiBuxs End User Licence Agreement. Installing only carries on once you choose "I accept the agreement".
0.9.2KiBuxs Setup fix
- Fixed the mistake in the KiBuxs Setup recipe that stopped the Setup file being made in 0.9.1.
0.9.1KiBuxs Setup is made on this computer
- If the Setup still can't be made, the window now stops and shows why.
0.9.0KiBuxs Setup: a proper Windows installer
- Updates: save a newer KiBuxs Setup in Downloads, then App info, Check for updates, Install. KiBuxs closes, the Setup shows its progress bar, and the new version opens. Your books aren't touched.
0.8.4No false overdue items when you start from opening balances
- When your books start from opening balances dated on a year end, Deadlines no longer lists that year's accounts, CT600 or the confirmation statements before it as overdue. Those were dealt with before you started using KiBuxs.
0.8.3Fixes from the latest full test
- Payroll: a director appointed partway through the tax year now gets National Insurance thresholds pro-rated for the weeks left in the year, as HMRC requires. For a director, enter the date they were appointed as their start date.
- Deadlines: the confirmation statement now shows even when no Companies House dates are filled in, worked out from the incorporation date.
- Deadlines: overdue accounts, Corporation Tax and CT600 returns for earlier years now show until you mark them done, and unsubmitted VAT returns are listed back to the date you registered for VAT.
- Invoices: an open credit note shows as "open credit" instead of "overdue", and the page shows the credit notes still to refund separately from what customers owe you.
- Invoices: a credit note can't be more than what's left to credit on its invoice.
- Year end: a warning lists the VAT returns for the year that aren't submitted yet. On the Flat Rate Scheme it explains that turnover and profit are too high until they are.
- Restoring a backup twice in the same second no longer overwrites the first safety copy.
- Minus amounts on the CT600, invoice and accounts pages now read -£250.10 instead of £-250.10.
- Dividend vouchers say "period ending" for a first period that isn't 12 months long.
- An old error message no longer stays on screen after you try again and it works.
0.8.2Every trace of the old app name removed
- The calendar file, sign-in, settings stored in the app window and the encrypted files no longer use the app's old name anywhere. Only the © and ™ owner notice names the company. Your books, backups and documents open as before.
- After updating, sign in again as usual, and choose your colour theme again in Settings, Appearance.
0.8.1Smaller fixes across accounts, imports, exports and security
- Accounts: totals now always agree with the lines above them. First accounts have no empty last-year column and say "period" instead of "year".
- Corporation tax: a year with 29 February no longer gets slightly higher limits.
- Import statement: Starling's Counter Party is used as the description. US-style dates and amounts with a comma for the pence (2400,00) now read correctly, and a file with nothing readable says why. If the starting-balance fix would fall in an earlier financial year, the import tells you first.
- Reports: the balance sheet and cash flow can be downloaded as CSV too. Text in CSV files can no longer run as a spreadsheet formula. Export everything now includes dividends, Companies House filings and imported statements.
- Invoices: a voided invoice can't be changed back into the books, and the footer names Scotland or Northern Ireland for companies registered there.
- Dividend vouchers show the real year-end date.
- Flat Rate Scheme: VAT on a single capital purchase of £2,000 or more is reclaimed, as HMRC allows.
- Mileage: a trip over 2,000 miles says what the limit is.
- Security: each two-step sign-in code works only once.
- Calendar file: long lines are folded as calendar apps expect.
0.8.0Credit notes, CT600 figures, and fixes for tax, payroll and accounts
- Invoices: a Credit note button on each invoice. It starts a credit note (numbered CN-0001 and on) with that invoice's lines as minus amounts, and takes the sale and its VAT back off.
- Year end: a new CT600 figures and tax computation page lists the main CT600 boxes to copy into your filing service. Losses from earlier years now come off this year's taxable profit.
- Capital allowances: vans get the Annual Investment Allowance. Cars have their own categories (electric, up to 50g/km CO2, over 50g/km) with the right allowance for each. Assets brought in from old books don't get the allowance again.
- VAT: entertaining clients no longer reclaims VAT, which HMRC doesn't allow.
- Payroll: Employment Allowance isn't claimed when a director is the only employee you pay employer's NI for. Salary payments in your bank statement now clear the net wages payroll booked, instead of counting the salary twice.
- Accounts: the downloaded file for Companies House no longer carries a draft note (the preview still does). If a director owed the company money during the year, the accounts now show the advance, as the law requires.
- Deadlines: VAT returns you haven't submitted stay on the list however overdue they are.
- Companies House accounts must be filed through software from 1 April 2028 (not 2027).
0.7.3Fixes for VAT, statement imports, accounts and new builds
- Add money in or out: VAT now follows the category you pick (for example insurance is exempt), and you can still change it. Paying tax, VAT, wages owed or a loan never has VAT taken off. Entries you've already added keep their VAT, so check any for insurance, tax or loans.
- Import statement: bank CSVs with separate Debit and Credit columns (Lloyds and Halifax style) are no longer mistaken for an old accounts file.
- Import statement: PDF statements whose column headings don't sit right above the figures now read correctly, including lines with no date of their own and the balance brought forward.
- Companies House accounts: the file now passes the official format check (a style tag was missing a required detail).
0.7.2Updates no longer trip over the last one
- Check for updates: installing an update could stop with "Cannot create a file when that file already exists" if KiBuxs had opened itself after the update before. KiBuxs now opens from its own folder, and the updater uses a fresh folder if an old one can't be cleared away.
0.7.1Three new colour themes and a tidier App info
- Settings, Appearance: three new themes, Crimson (deep red), Sunset (warm orange) and Summer day (sunny yellow), each with a light and a dark look and their own sign-in screen.
- App info: the Updates on this computer list is gone. Last updated at the top still shows when you got this version.
0.7.0Report a problem, and no more online AI
- App info: a new Report a problem or suggest an idea box for bug reports, feedback and feature requests. Save it as a file or copy it, then send it on. Only what you write goes in, plus the version and kind of computer if you leave that ticked. KiBuxs never sends it by itself.
- Ask the accountant is removed. KiBuxs keeps everything on this computer and only connects to HMRC and Companies House. Any Anthropic API key you'd saved is deleted.
0.6.0Receipts: search, own scroll box and a quicker inbox
- Receipts: a search box finds receipts by shop, date, amount, category or the bank payment they're matched to.
- Receipts: the list now scrolls in its own box, so the page no longer goes on and on.
- Receipts: while the page is open it checks your inbox folder every 2 seconds, and new receipts (from the inbox or your phone) appear by themselves, without losing your search or scroll position. These checks don't stop KiBuxs locking itself when you're away.
0.5.5Opens by itself after an update
- The sign-in screen shows the KiBuxs version in the bottom right corner.
0.5.4Clickable deadlines
- Dashboard: every row under Coming up now opens the page where you deal with it: corporation tax and CT600 go to Year end & tax, annual accounts and the confirmation statement to Companies House, VAT returns to VAT, PAYE to Payroll and renewals to Documents. Things to do rows open their pages as before.
0.5.3Tidier Check for updates
- App info: a new version found by Check for updates now shows as one tidy box, with What's new as a list and the Install button underneath.
0.5.1New icons
- The emojis across KiBuxs are replaced with clean line icons from Lucide: the menu, buttons, Things to do, receipts, the phone page and the light and dark switch.
- The icons are stored inside KiBuxs, so they work without the internet. Lucide's licence is noted in App info.
0.5.0Hide amounts, CIS invoices and Check for updates
- Dashboard: a Hide amounts button on the Show bar swaps every figure for ****** until you press it again, handy when someone can see your screen.
- Invoices: a CIS option for construction work, at 20% (registered), 30% (not registered) or 0% (gross payment status). Mark each line as labour or materials: CIS comes off labour only. The invoice shows the deduction and what the customer pays, and payments are matched on that amount. The CIS taken off is kept in the books as money HMRC owes the company.
- Invoices: a VAT reverse charge option for CIS work, with the wording HMRC asks for.
- Year end & tax: a Mark the tax as paid button, so a paid corporation tax bill no longer shows as overdue.
- Fixes the Internal Server Error that sometimes appeared on Year end & tax (two parts of the page were read from your books at the same moment).
- Phone receipts: the KiBuxs logo is on the page, and a dropped Wi-Fi connection no longer shows "Load failed": the photo is sent again by itself (never twice), with a Try again button if it still can't get through.
0.3.6Windows app build fix
- Fixes 0.3.5's build stopping straight away on Windows, which allows less working room than the build asked for.
0.3.5Steadier Windows app build
- The Windows app build now runs with much more working room, which stops it closing without a message partway through.
- If the build still crashes, the build log now says where.
0.3.4Build log for the Windows app
- A build that crashes is now reported as failed instead of carrying on.
0.3.2Phone QR code uses the right address
- The phone QR code now points at this computer's home Wi-Fi or Ethernet address. Addresses a phone can't reach, from Hyper-V, WSL, VirtualBox or a VPN, now go last.
- If this computer has more than one address, a row of buttons above the QR code switches it to each one.
- KiBuxs remembers the address your phone reached and puts it first next time.
0.3.1Build the Windows app with Python 3.14
- If KiBuxs is opened while it builds, it waits for you to close it instead of stopping halfway.
- Clearer advice when something stops the build: Smart App Control, an antivirus, a missing Microsoft Visual C++ or WebView2 runtime, or the internet.
- The new app's self-check now also loads the window parts it needs, so a problem shows before it's installed.
0.3.0KiBuxs as its own Windows app
- Only one copy opens at a time. Opening KiBuxs again brings the open window to the front.
- Closing the window saves and locks your books, and copies the day's backup to your USB stick if it's plugged in.
- Invoices, payslips, accounts, dividend paperwork, receipts and documents open in a second KiBuxs window. Links to HMRC, GOV.UK, Companies House and Anthropic open in your usual browser.
- Downloads (backups, CSV files, the calendar file, accounts) ask where to save, and there's a Choose folder button for your USB backup folder.
- The receipt reader is built in, so reading receipts works without anything else installed.
- The browser version still works as before, and both use the same books.
0.2.1Skip things to do
- Each item in Things to do on the dashboard has a Skip button. A skipped item stays hidden until there's something new, for example more transactions to check, a renewal falling overdue or a month since your last backup.
- Show skipped, under the list, brings skipped items back. Each company keeps its own list.
- Skipping "Finish setting up your company" also stops the app opening at the setup steps.
0.2.0More than one company
- Keep the books for more than one company under one password. Click the company name at the top of the sidebar to switch company or add a new one, which opens blank at the setup steps.
- Each company has its own transactions, receipts, invoices, VAT, payroll and documents. Two-step sign in, auto-lock, the backup folder and your API keys are the same for every company, and KiBuxs opens the one you had open last.
- Backups now hold every company, and restoring one brings them all back.
- Settings → Company can remove a company you no longer need, keeping an encrypted copy first.
- The phone receipts page shows which company your receipts are going to.
- The dashboard greeting is now a plain "Hello".
0.1.0Initial release (Beta)
- The first Beta of KiBuxs: bookkeeping for a small UK limited company, kept encrypted on this computer with nothing stored in the cloud.
- Step-by-step company setup, bank statements brought in from CSV or PDF and sorted into categories, and your old books brought in from Wave, Xero, QuickBooks and others.
- Income and expenses, receipts (from your phone too), invoices, mileage, salary and dividends, a calendar, and documents with renewal reminders.
- VAT returns for Making Tax Digital, RTI payroll, Corporation Tax and year-end accounts ready for Companies House, with deadlines and lock dates.
- Reports, a dashboard, backups, two-step sign in, colour themes with light and dark mode.
- Version numbers stay below 1.0 while KiBuxs is in Beta. The full release will be version 1.0.0.
